The most extensive of the University’s infill projects is the 110,000 square-foot South Lawn Project, the new home for the College of Arts and Sciences. A grass-covered terrace extends from the back of New Cabell Hall, crosses Jefferson Park Avenue, and terminates at a landscape feature and a series of state-of-the-art academic buildings. This literal and metaphorical extension of the Lawn recaptures the mountain views obscured by Stanford White’s Cabell Hall and memorializes the site of the former African-American neighborhood on which it stands.
