This site is a web version of the physical exhibition, Hearts at Home: Southern Women in the Civil War, displayed at the University of Virginia Library’s Special Collections department in Alderman Library from August through October 1997. The exhibition was co-curated by Ervin Johnson and Michele Ostrow. The site is housed at the University of Virginia.

 The site contains images of original letters, photographs, newspapers, and a variety of printed material. The site has been created to enable public access to these materials in support of teaching, research, and scholarship. Educational institutions or affiliated individuals, school teachers, news organizations, and members of the public are all welcome to link to individual images or other content posted on the site and to download selected material for the above-authorized purposes.
