In order to house the growing number of students with families coming to the University under the GI Bill, a makeshift collection of surplus military trailers and barracks occupied an area northwest of central grounds. The first development in what would become North Grounds, Copeley Hill was a short-lived solution that fostered a vibrant community of students whose needs differed from those of a traditional U.Va. first-year.
