Protesters March Through Downtown Roanoke, Va.

A group of demonstrators wielding signs marches through downtown Roanoke, Va., and by the National Business College to protest the exclusion of two African American women, Annette Scott Chester and Esther Lee Sayles, from the private college. A voice is heard in the footage, saying that this is a matter of justice for an entire race, not just two women who were denied the right to an education.

TWO WARRANTS HAD BEEN ISSUED AGAINST HIM, AS LONG AGO AS APRIL 25TH. REYNOLDS WAS CHARGED WITH INTERFERENCE WITH POLICE AND DISORDERLY CONDUCT. POLICE CAPTAIN MURRAY O. COCHRAN AND A NEGRO POLICEMAN PUT REYNOLDS INTO AN UNMARKED CAR DRIVEN BY ROANOKE POLICE CHIEF M. DAVID HOOPER. PROTESTS AND ANGRY OATHS FOLLOWED, AS THE CAR PULLED AWAY, AND A YOUNG SPOKESMAN APPEALED FOR ORDER. MRS. RUBATEX--BEDFORD'S LEADING INDUSTRY--WILL ENTER ITS SECOND WEEK OF A STRIKE AT MIDNIGHT. PERLESS WAS BRIEFED ON THE FEELINGS OF BOTH SIDES.. A FIRE BROKE OUT AT THE PLANT, BUT WAS APPARENTLY A MINOR BLAZE, WHILE A THIN LAYER OF RUBBER WAS GETTING AN ADHESIVE BACKING. ONE PICKET REMARKED THAT IT WAS (FILM ROLLING) RUBATEX, 2 (FILM ROLLING) PROBABLY CAUSED BY AN INEXPERIENCED MACHINE OPERATOR. HOWEVER, RUBATEX PERSONNEL MANAGER JACK COLEMAN SAID THE SAME SITUATION HAS OCCURRED IN THE PASE--WITH A UNION OPERATOR ON THE JOB. COLEMAN TOLD CHANNEL 10 NEWS THAT THE COMPANY IS VERY PLEASED WITH THE OUTPUT OF THE EMPLOYES ON THE JOB. (LIVE ON)
