Barbara Guthrie is crowned Miss Virginia at the annual pageant in Roanoke, Va. Guthrie and runners-up receive awards and congratulations from pageant officials and the previous year's winner, Rebecca Lee. Contestants process off stage.

Anchor script text: In Southseide Virginia....(start Film) An attractive Pittsylvania County girl walked off with top honors last night in the Miss Danville Pageant. (show film) Winning out over 15 other contestants was pretty Patsy Lou Jones of Dry Fork. She'll compete next in the Miss Virginia Pageant to be staged in Roanoke this summer. A crowd of some 25-hundred watched the girls parade in bathing suits, give their talent presentations, and then promenade in evening gowns. The Danville winner receives a $400 scholarship and a trophy as well. Miss Jones is now an Averett College Student. She was named Miss Chatham in 1954. Mayor Julian Stinson of Danville had the honor of crowning the Queen.

Anchor script text: A brand new "Miss Roanoke County" was picked over the weekend. (start film) Already looking forward to the "Miss Virginia Pageant" she's 18-year-old Linda Evans, who won the title Saturday night. (show film) The blue-eyed beauty woun out over 19 other pretty girls for the title at Andrew Lewis High School in Salem. She's the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Van Lear of 5219 Darby Road, Northwest. Overcome by her victory, the shaply brunettes eyes filled with tears when she was informed that she had won. She decided to enter the beauty contest just a week ago. Miss Evans is a senior at William Fleming. She did a Charleston dance for her talent entry. The next step, on to the Miss Virginia pageant in Junre.
